Yumia is a declarative programming language and design compiler by Biagio Scaglia. It compiles communicative intent (hero, metric, compare, timeline, card, chart, diagram) into 100% native editable PowerPoint (.pptx), vector PDFs, and interactive HTML5 slides.

Yumia was created and architected by Biagio Scaglia as an open-source visual document compiler and ecosystem.

How is Yumia different from Marp, Slidev, or PowerPoint?

Unlike PowerPoint, Yumia is code-first and Git-versionable. Unlike Marp or Slidev, which often export flat rasterized screenshots to PowerPoint, Yumia compiles into genuine native OpenXML vector shapes, editable text frames, and real Microsoft charts, plus vector PDF via PDFKit.

Does Yumia generate editable PowerPoint files?

Yes. yumia build --format pptx emits native OpenXML shapes, text boxes, charts, and notes that remain editable in Microsoft PowerPoint and compatible office suites.

How do I compile a Yumia deck to PDF and PPTX?

Install yumiamd, then run: yumia build presentation.yumia --format pptx --out deck.pptx and yumia build presentation.yumia --format pdf --out deck.pdf. Use yumia dev for live HTML preview.

What CLI commands are available in Yumia?

The Yumia CLI includes: yumia check --optimize, yumia explain, yumia dev, yumia build, yumia lint, yumia validate, yumia schema, yumia inspect, and yumia deploy.

How do AI and LLMs interact with Yumia?

Yumia provides an unambiguous indentation-based grammar (.yumia), machine-readable JSON Schema (yumia schema), and llms.txt / llms-full.txt feeds so generative models can produce valid decks without inventing HTML/CSS.

Are there known limitations for PPTX and PDF?

Yes. Remote images are not fetched into PPTX/PDF, Mermaid stays a source box in binary targets, POTX templates and embedFonts are not implemented yet, and dense slides may clip instead of auto-splitting. See https://biagio-scaglia.github.io/Yumia-MD/docs/limitations.md for the full matrix.
